Local Politics Oppose Large Energy Park in Oosterleek

Concerns Over Size of Proposed Wind Turbines

David van Gelderen, a council member of Progressief Drechterland, expresses dismay at the scale of the plans for the energy park in Oosterleek. He highlights the mismatch of placing 200 to 250-meter-high turbines in Drechterland, near the Westfriese Omringdijk, comparing them to the 260-meter turbine in Maasvlakte. The 'De Ambtenaar' turbine in Medemblik stands at 198.5 meters.

Decision Making in the Hands of the Province?

The area between Hem and Oosterleek has been designated by the Drechterland municipality as an RES search area for solar and wind energy generation. However, questions arise regarding the decision-making authority, as ABO Energy's plan involves generating over 5 megawatts of wind power, potentially placing the fate of Oosterleek under provincial jurisdiction.

David van Gelder voices concern over the municipality being sidelined in decision-making, advocating for local control. He emphasizes the importance of community involvement in the decision-making process.

Taking a Stand

A motion is being prepared to empower councilor Sjon Wagenaar to approach the province and halt the proposed plans. The council aims to show solidarity against the project and calls for its cancellation. The next step in establishing the RES search areas is set for February 3rd by the province.
